Rajma Masala/Rajma Curry

Rajma Masala/ Rajma Curry is a healthy and easy masala to make, it is a one pot dish with no hassles. It is a perfect side dish for rotis and can also be had with rice. It is rich in proteins and fibres.

Here’s how to make it with step by step photos…

Ingredients

Rajma/Red Kidney beans
1 cup
Onion
1 big finely chopped
Tomatoes
3 finely chopped
Green chillies
2 finely chopped
Ginger & Garlic paste
2 tsp
Red chilli powder
1 tsp
Coriander powder
2 tsp
Garam masala powder
1 tsp
Turmeric powder
¼ tsp
Cumin seeds
1 tsp
Kasthuri methi leaves(dry crushed)
1 tsp
Oil
1 tbsp
Cilantro
2 tbsp finely chopped
Lemon juice ( from fresh lemon)
1 tsp
Butter (optional)
1 tsp

Method

Soak rajma overnight and drain the water. Wash it, add salt and enough water to immerse rajma completely and cook for 3- 4 whistles. Do not throw away the water used for cooking rajma.

In a deep saucepan heat oil, add the cumin seeds after about 2o sec, add onions and green chillies and sauté until translucent. Now add the ginger & garlic paste and sauté until the raw smell goes off.

Add the tomatoes and sauté until mushy. At this point, I use the masher to mash everything fine.

Now add red chilli powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder, garam masala powder and sauté for about 30 sec. Now add some water from the cooked rajma to the sauce pan and let it boil good.

Add the rajma and mix thoroughly. Use the masher to mash some of the rajma, add kasthuri methi leaves, little salt and let cook for 5-10 min and switch off the stove.

Finally add lemon juice, cilantro leaves and mix well, and serve it with butter.

  5. Oh, this looks so good Priya. I once made a Rajma masala with the recipe that was given in a cookbook that came with my pressure cooker. It was not quite what I was looking for. I will try out your version sometime :)
