Ellu Thogaiyal/Sesame Seeds Thogaiyal


 Ingredients

Vallarai Keerai
2 cups
Bengal Gram Dal/ Kadalai Paruppu
2  tbsp
Urad Dal /Ullutham Paruppu
1 tbsp
Black Pepper Corns/Milagu
1 tsp
Cumin Seeds
1 tsp
Onion
1 big finely chopped
Garlic
5 cloves
Dry red Chillies
2
Tamarind/Puli
One small amla size ball
Salt
As needed
Oil
1 tbsp
Preparation Time: 10 minutes                            Recipe Category: Lunch/Sidedish

Method

Clean and wash the vallarai leaves thoroughly to get rid of mud and dirt.


Heat oil in a kadai, splutter cumin seeds.


Now add Bengal gram dal, urad dal and fry until they start to change colour.


Add black pepper corns, dry red chillies and the saute for another 30 seconds.


Add the finely chopped onions, garlic and fry until they turn translucent.


Now add the tamarind and saute for few more seconds.


Drain the water from the vallarai keerai and add it to the kadai. Saute the leaves until they turn and soft. Add required amount of salt needed, mix thoroughly and switch off the stove.

Let it cool down completely. Now transfer it to a mixer and grind it to thuvaiyal consistency with required amount of water.


Yes, delicious and healthy Vallarai Keerai Thuvaiyal is ready to be enjoyed.


I have not tempered this thuvaiyal, if needed you can temper it with mustard seeds and urad dal.
