Method

Manathakkali Keerai

Clean the manathakkali keerai and wash the leaves thoroughly atleast 3 -4 times and drain the water.

Heat 2 tsp of oil in a kadai, add urad dal, Bengal gram dal, dry red chillies and fry until dals turn to light brown colour.

Now add finely chopped onion, garlic and saute until the onions turn golden brown colour. Add little salt when you saute the onions, for it to cook faster.

Add the tamarind and saute for 30-40 seconds.

Now add the coconut pieces and saute for about a minute.

Add the washed manathakkali keerai , salt and saute until it gets cooked. Now switch off the stove and let it cool.

Add everything to the mixer and make a smooth paste. Then transfer the manathakkali keerai to a serving bowl.

Heat oil in a kadai, splutter mustard seeds, cumin seeds, urad dal, dry red chilli, curry leaves and fry for few seconds.

Transfer the tempering to the thuvaiyal.
