Manathakkali Keerai Thanni Saru Recipe/மணத்தக்காளி கீரை தண்ணி சாறு/Black Nightshade Soup with Coconut Milk/Solanum Nigrum Soup/Makoi Soup with Coconut Milk-Keeraithanni Recipe with Video in both English & Tamil

Manathakkali keerai/Black nightshade has numerous medicinal properties. It is rich in antioxidants, iron, vitamins, minerals and loaded with calcium. The amount of phosphorous present in it helps in the growth and development of brain nerves.  Manathakkkali Keerai is an excellent cure for mouth ulcers and stomach ulcers. In Tamil medicine it said that you should consume the manathakkali keerai raw leaves [7-8] in the morning in empty stomach. This is an excellent remedy and cure for stomach and mouth ulcers. This manathakkali keerai thanni, prepared with coconut milk is my grandma’s recipe. After I got married, when I made this recipe, my husband and my in-laws were surprised, it was really new to them and they loved it. Anyway friends try out this keerai thanni and post your comments. Manathakkali Vathal Kuzhambu/Sun Dried Black Nightshade Gravy

Vatha Kuzhambu/Vathal Kuzhambu is a very popular, traditional and authentic kuzhambu prepared in Tamil Nadu. This  gravy is prepared with tamarind along with vatha kuzhambu powder or sambar powder or even with just redchilli powder and coriander powder. The gravy is cooked until it thickens and then any vathal of your choice is added. Vatral/vathal are nothing but sun dried berries or vegetables. The most commonly made vathal kuzhambus are manathakkali vathal kuzhambu, sundakkai vathal kuzhambu, vendakkai vathal, kathrikkai vathal, kothavarangai vathal etc. Manathakkali is known as “Makoy” in Hindi and “Black Nightshade” in English. Thirunelveli Sambar - Tamil Nadu Special

Thirunelveli also known as Nellai is a city in the Southern state of Tamil Nadu, India. It is located on the banks of Thamirabarani River. Thirunelveli has a number of historical monuments, the Nellaiappar Temple being the most prominent. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and worshiped as Nellaiappar. Thiru-Nel-Veli(Thiru –shri, Nel –Paddi, Veli-Fence). Carrot & Tomato Kootu [No grinding]

This carrot & tomato kootu is the easiest kootu to make especially in the morning rush when you need to pack lunch. The best part of it is you don’t need to grind anything, yes I can  see lot of smiles in all of your face. I make this kootu when I am totally tired and when I don’t want to cook, but still have to cook. It is so easy, just add everything to the cooker, pressure cook it and then finally temper it. Vegetable Ishtu is a traditional and authentic dish of Kerala, called as Vegetable stew in English. Ishtu/Stew is usually prepared just with potatoes or combination of vegetables. Paruppu Kuzhambu/Dal Gravy/Dal stew

Paruppu Kuzhambu/Dal gravy is a very traditional and authentic kuzhambu prepared in all most all the houses in Tamil Nadu. This paruppu kuzhambu is my grandmas recipe, who was from Nagapattinam, which my mom makes quite often. Paruppu kuzhambu is different from sambar, because it is made without using sambar powder or chilli powders. It is very flavourful and thick in consistency because of the garlic and ground coconut paste or coconut milk. This same paruppu kuzhambu is prepared differently in each district of Tamil Nadu with slight changes in the recipe.

Beetroot Kootu with Chana Dal/Kadalai Paruppu

Beetroot kootu is a very nutritious and healthy dish that can be served with either white rice or with rotis or any Indian bread. Kootu is a very traditional food served in Tamil Nadu as a part of lunch menu and no feast (virundhu) is complete without kootu. Kootu is nothing but cooking vegetables and dals together and finally tempering them. Kootu can be done with different combination of vegetables and dals.
