Vadai Curry/Vada Curry/Side Dish for Idlis and Dosas/Vada Curry Recipe
Today I am going to share a very traditional and
famous South Indian delight – Vadai Curry, which is served as side dish for
idlis and dosas. Vadai Curry is a flavourful and tasty gravy, the vadais are
prepared separately and then dunked into the freshly prepared gravy and cooked together
for a while. All the flavors and spices get infused into the crumbled vadai and
it taste heavenly. I have fried the vadais, if you want to make it healthier
then you can very well steam cook the vadai and then make the vadai curry. Do

Today I
am going to share a very traditional recipe of Tamil Nadu, it is one of the
most authentic delicacy served in weddings and full meal course. We usually
make more kuzhambus with different types of vegetables or even just plain more
kuzhambu, but this one is just awesome. The bondas made out of urad dal, are
soaked in water and then dropped into the more kuzhambu, which absorbs the
spicy butter milk and is extremely soft, which in turn just melts in your mouth

Murungai Keerai Sambar/Drumstick Leaves Sambar/Murungai Keerai Sambar Recipe
Today I
am going to share a very healthy and loving recipe – murungai keerai sambar
from my kitchen. We have Murugaikeerai tree[mom’s house] in our backyard, so I have
decided to share lot more drumstick leaves recipe in the following post. If you
have murugai keerai tree in your back yard it means you have a doctor at home.
It has excellent medicinal values and is a cure for lots of diseases. It has
the amazing healing power to cure wounds inside the stomach, reduces headache
and bloody diarrhea. Murungaikeerai purifies our blood and excretes all the
toxins out of our body. It is an excellent source of calcium and helps in
building stronger bones and teeth. They also contain abundant amount of
potassium which plays a vital role in brain development. I have shared a few

back today with a very healthy and lovely vegetable paneer curry. I know it is
really hard to get the kids to eat vegetables. But, when there is paneer
involved in it, then it is easier for us to give the kids a healthy, filling

Today I
am going to share with you all a very healthy and nutritious Araikeerai Puli
Kadaiyal. This puli kadaiyal recipe is super tasty, tangy and spicy, everything
in right amount. Araikeerai/Amaranthus Tristis, like any other green is loaded
with iron, calcium, anitoxidants and other vitamins and minerals. Araikeerai is
an excellent remedy for cold, cough, immunity and builds strength in our body. It is said
to play a vital role in helping people suffering from neuritis/nerve related
problems. I have read in one of the Ayurvedic books which states that, if araikeerai
is included in our diet everyday it helps in curing long term diseases like
cervical spondylosis, nerve pain, head ache, migrane etc. For this a very strict
diet containing araikeerai kadaiyal and pepper rasam has to be followed every

Manathakkali
keerai/Black nightshade has numerous medicinal properties. It is rich in
antioxidants, iron, vitamins, minerals and loaded with calcium. The amount of
phosphorous present in it helps in the growth and development of brain nerves. Manathakkkali Keerai is an excellent cure for
mouth ulcers and stomach ulcers. In Tamil medicine it said that you should
consume the manathakkali keerai raw leaves [7-8] in the morning in empty
stomach. This is an excellent remedy and cure for stomach and mouth ulcers. This
manathakkali keerai thanni, prepared with coconut milk is my grandma’s recipe. After I
got married, when I made this recipe, my husband and my in-laws
were surprised, it was really new to them and they loved it. Anyway friends try

Manathakkali Vathal Kuzhambu/Sun Dried Black Nightshade Gravy
Vatha
Kuzhambu/Vathal Kuzhambu is a very popular, traditional and authentic kuzhambu
prepared in Tamil Nadu. This gravy is prepared with tamarind along with vatha
kuzhambu powder or sambar powder or even with just redchilli powder and
coriander powder. The gravy is cooked until it thickens and then any vathal of
your choice is added. Vatral/vathal are nothing but sun dried berries or
vegetables. The most commonly made vathal kuzhambus are manathakkali vathal
kuzhambu, sundakkai vathal kuzhambu, vendakkai vathal, kathrikkai vathal,
kothavarangai vathal etc. Manathakkali is known as “Makoy” in Hindi and “Black

Thirunelveli Sambar - Tamil Nadu Special

also known as Nellai is a city in the Southern state of Tamil Nadu, India. It
is located on the banks of Thamirabarani River. Thirunelveli has a number of
historical monuments, the Nellaiappar Temple being the most prominent. The
temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and worshiped as Nellaiappar.
Thiru-Nel-Veli(Thiru –shri, Nel –Paddi, Veli-Fence). It is believed that food
grains collected for worship at the temple were protected from the floods by
