Ponnanganni Keerai is called as “Dwarf Copper Leaf” in English and is available throughout the year. The name “Ponnaganni” means glow like gold. It comes two different varieties one with green leaves are called “Nattu Ponnanganni” and the Red ones are called “Seemai Ponnanganni”. It is loaded with iron, calcium and other vital nutrients that make our skin glow. It is an excellent body coolant and reduces body heat when consumed for a period of 48 days. It can be consumed either as ponnaganni keerai poriyal or kootu or even as kuzhambu. Ponnanganni oil/thailam is very famous in Tamil Nadu and is used for treating headaches and also for treating excessive body heat during the summer months. Kal Dosa/Kal Dosai – How to make Kal Dosai

Kal Dosai is yet another delectable variety of dosa in the South Indian Cuisine. Unlike the plain dosa or uthappam this dosa is made with parboiled rice and urad dal, which yields a very soft and spongy dosa.  As the Kal dosa are soft  and spongy they are perfect for travel, you can just sprinkle some idli milagai podi and carry it along with you. Sakkarai Pongal/Sweet Pongal is a very special and a traditional dish of Tamil Nadu prepared especially during Pongal festival and also during other festive occasions and on pooja days. Usually Sakkarai Pongal is prepared with raw rice, moong dal and jaggery, but here, I have replaced raw rice with Varagu Arisi as a healthy alternative. It is available in different size and shapes in white and red colours depending on the climatic conditions in which it grows. It has very less calories, high water content, rich in vitamin C and fiber. Chow Chow Kootu/Chayote Kootu

Chow Chows/Chayotes are a light green, pear shaped fruit with one large pit, edible skin and flesh. Chayotes are native to Meixco but cultivated in warm climates all over the world. The Chayotes are technically fruits, but very often used as a vegetable. In South India Chow chow/Chayote kootu is very common and a popular dish. Kootu is nothing but a dish prepared by adding vegetables and dals together with very mild spices and seasoned for flavouring. Chow chow is very commonly called a “Bangalore Kathrikkai” in TamilNadu. Chow chow/Chayotes have high fiber and water content and very less sugar. Karpooravallli(Tamil) otherwise is called as  Country Borage plant. It has lots of medicinal benefits. The karpooravalli leaves are used for treating common cold, cough, sore throats, nasal congestion, indigestion, rheumatism and so on. The leaves of karpooravalli plant are quite fleshy and very aromatic. These leaves are very good source of vitamins and minerals. Karpooravalli plants are easy to grow and maintain. Cut a small piece of the plant from where it is available and plant it in soil with ample amount of water. It will grow and spread faster.
