Bombay Halwa/Karachi Halwa/Corn Flour Halwa

Hello Friends,

Today,  I am going to share a very easy and tempting halwa – Bombay Halwa/Corn Flour Halwa/Karachi Halwa. This halwa has a beautiful and glossy texture, nice crunchy nuts hidden inside the halwa, along with ghee gives it an extraordinary taste. Mango Halwa is a very delightful and finger licking halwa that can be made in minutes. Ashoka Halwa – Thiruvaiyar Halwa /Diwali Special Sweets

Ashoka Halwa is a traditional and a very famous sweet in Thanjavur District, Tamil Nadu usually served as a dessert. The name is very fascinating and interesting, but I don't know why or how it got it's name. It is made in special occasions like weddings, baby shower etc and also during festival seasons. This halwa is prepared with moong dal as main ingredient which is rich in protein and fiber.  Do try it out friends, it is very easy and quick Diwali sweet. Ullundhu Kali/Urad Dal Halwa

Ullundhu Kali is an authentic and traditional dish of South India – Tamil Nadu. I am really sure all the girls from Tamil Nadu must be very very familiar with this ullundhu kali. The reason I say it is because this  ullundhu kali is given to girls when they attain puberty and throughout their teen age. Ullundhu kali is a must during this time because it strengthens the pelvic bone of the young girls and helps in strengthening the back. This dish is totally amazing it involves only three ingredients but loaded with proteins (urad dal), Iron & minerals (Jaggery) and vitamin E & Omega 6 (Gingelly oil). Even now the tradition of giving raw eggs and gingelly oil as a first thing in the morning for the first few days for the young girls during their first menstruation cycle continues in many families. They are considered to be very nutritious for the girls as they strengthen the uterus and prepare them for healthy child bearing later on in their adulthood. I still remember those days when I used to cry to eat the raw eggs so my grandma used to give boiled eggs, but I love gingelly oil.

Now coming back to Ullundhu kali, it must be made only with gingelly oil. Gingelly oil/Nalla ennai  is a cold pressed oil  derived from sesame seeds and has numerous health benefits. Cold pressed oils are produced through a combination of grinding and low heat without any addition of chemicals. Ongoing research also indicates that the rich presence of antioxidants and polyunsaturated fats could help to control blood pressure [source:Wikipedia]. Gingelly oil is called as “Nalla ennai” meaning “Good Oil” , so friends try to incorporate it in cooking as much as possible.

Beetroot Halwa

Today’s special in my kitchen is Beetroot Halwa, is anything special? Yes, it is my hubby’s star birthday. We all had a bowl of halwa and enjoyed it. Beetroot Halwa is a very easy sweet which can be made with very less ingredients.

Beetroots have “N” number of health benefits. It is rich in antioxidants and the high fibre content helps fighting cholesterol and reducing them. Beetroots are full of iron help in treating anaemia and fatigue. Studies have shown they reduce the blood pressure and any risk associated with heart attack and strokes. Bearing all these health benefits in mind, I made a very tasty and delectable halwa.

Today I am so happy and excited because this is my 200th post, this is all possible because of all of your encouragement. Exactly this day five months back I started blogging and I have made lot of nice friends, learnt a lot of new things and I am having a wonderful experience.
