How to cook Thur Dal/ThoorDal/Thuvaram Paruppu perfectly for making Sambar

Today, I am going to share a very basic and simple recipe of how to cook thurdal/thoor dal/thuvaram paruppu to make sambar or paruppu rasam etc. So without much delay let’s move on to the recipe.

Here’s how to cook Thuvaram Paruppu/Thur Dal with step by step photos…

Ingredients
Thur Dal/Thuvaram Paruppu
1 cup
Water
3
Turmeric Powder
½ tsp
Asafoetida/Hing/Perungaayam
¼ tsp
Oil
¼ tsp
Preparation Time: less than 5 minutes
Cooking time: 10-15 minutes

Method
Wash and soak the thoordal/thurdal/thuvaram paruppu for about 15 minutes.

Add washed thurdal/thuvaram paruppu to the pressure cooker along with 3 cups of water.

Add turmeric powder, ¼ tsp of oil, asafoetida/hing/perungayam to the pressure cooker.

Pressure cook for 3 whistles and switch off the stove.

Wait for the steam to release all by itself, then open the lid and mash the dal with masher or mathu.

Add little water mix well and keep the dal aside. Now the cooked thuvardal/thur dal is ready to make Sambar or can be used for making Paruppu Rasam etc.
