Pottukadalai Urundai/MaaLadoo/Roasted Gram Ladoo

Pottukadalai/Roasted gram ladoo is a very delicious traditional South Indian sweets that can be made very quickly. It needs exactly 5 ingredients and can be made within 15 min and a perfect kids delight. I do make this ladoo on Janmashtami days and when I am really lazy to make any other sweets for my kids.

Here’s Pottukadali Urundai/Roasted Gram Ladoo with step by step photos…

Ingredients

Pottukadalai/Roasted gram
1 cup
Sugar
½ cup
Ghee
4 – 5 tbsp
Cardamom/Elachi
3
Cashew nuts
4 -5 finely chopped
  •         The above measurement make 15 -16 small ladoos.
  •             The shelf life of these ladoos is about 10 days.
Method

Grind the roasted gram/pottukadalai in to fine powder in a mixer, sieve it and transfer it in to a bowl.

Grind the sugar & cardamom together in to fine powder in a mixer and add it to the powdered roasted gram bowl.

Heat 2 tsp of ghee and roast the cashew nuts and add it to the already ground powder.
Heat the ghee and keep it warm until you make the ladoos.

Mix the roasted gram flour, powdered sugar and cashew nuts well. Now slowly add the warm ghee and mix thoroughly and start making small balls. [Keep adding ghee and mixing it until you are able to make the balls]

Make the balls when it is warm enough. Delicious pottukadalai ladoos are ready to be enjoyed.

Store the ladoos in an airtight container and enjoy it later.

Suggestions:

Make sure the ghee is not very hot (so that u won’t burn your hands) or cold. It has to be hot enough to make the balls.

You can as well use milk and reduce the amount of ghee, if you are using milk just consume the ladoos in 2 – 3 days.

Use only ghee, do not use dalda or oil. It will not taste good.

Thank you all for visiting my blog, please come back again for more traditional South Indian sweets.
Until then I am signing off…

  9. You bring back so many fond memories of my childhood with this. I remember bothering my uncles when mum was at work and they would make this for me, only thing, they were lazy to form it into balls. They would give it to me in a bowl and spoon and I happily enjoyed it in my balcony..Thanks Priya.
