Method
Grind the ingredients mentioned in the table “for grinding” with required amount of water and keep it aside.

Boil the potatoes, cut them to cubes and keep it aside.

Wash the moong dal/pasi paruppu thoroughly and pressure cook it with enough water and keep it aside.

Heat oil in a kadai, splutter mustard seeds, then add cumin seeds, cinnamon sticks, cloves, bay leaves and saute for 10-15 seconds or until nice aroma fills the room.

Now add finely chopped onions, green chillies and saute until the onions turn to golden brown colour.

Add the cooked moong dal, turmeric powder, salt and mix thoroughly. Let it come to boil.

Then add the boiled and chopped potatoes to the dal and stir well. Add about 1 cup of water, stir well and let it boil well.

Now add the coconut paste and cook until it reaches one boil, then switch off the stove.

Finally add lemon juice, chopped coriander leaves and mix well.

Yes, delicious, tempting, aromatic and healthy Kumbakonam Kadappa is ready to be enjoyed. Serve it hot with idlis, dosas or appam.

Note:
After cooling the kadappa tends to thicken, so the adjust the kadappa to required consistency by adding water.
Adjust the amount of salt and spice [green chillies] according to your families taste.
I have added lemon juice, you can as well add one or two ripe tomatoes and reduce the amount of lemon juice.
