Method

Cut the onions and capsicum to cubes as shown in the photo.

Heat 2 tbsp of oil in a kadai/pan, add the cut onions, capsicum  and little salt to it.

Fry them on high flame for about 2-3 minutes. Transfer them to a bowl and keep it aside.

To the same kadai/pan, add 1 tbsp of oil, splutter cumin seeds/jeeragam.

Add finely chopped onions and saute really well until they turn light golden color.

Now add besan flour/kadalai Maavu and saute really well. You will get a nice aroma and the flour will change color.

At this stage add 1 tbsp of ginger & garlic paste and saute really well until the raw smell vanishes.

Add finely chopped tomatoes and saute well until they turn mushy.

Add red chilli powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder, salt to the kadai.

Saute really well for about a minute.

Add ½ cup of yogurt/curd to the kadai. Mix really well and cook on low flame for about 4-5 minutes.

Add ½ cup of water and mix well. Cover and cook for about 4-5 minutes.

The gravy will become thick and oil will start to float on top.

Give a good stir, now add the fried onions & capsicum to the gravy.

Let it come to a boil. Add cumin powder or garam masala powder, 1 tbsp of chopped cilantro to the gravy.

Give a good stir, cover and cook for about 2-3 minutes.

Finally open the lid, give a good stir, add 1 tbsp of finely chopped cilantro and switch off the stove.

Delicious, rich and creamy Onion Mirchi Sabji is ready to be enjoyed. Serve it hot with rotis/chapthis/naans or with simple & elegant Ghee Rice or Cumin Rice and enjoy.
