Ingredients

Black Urad Dal/Karuppu Ullundhu

¾ cup

Raw Rice/Parboiled Rice

1 cup

Moong Dal/Paasi Paruppu

¼ cup

Garlic Cloves

12-14

Fenugreek Seeds/Vendhayam

1 tsp

Coconut

½ coconut grated

Salt

As needed

Here's a short video on how to make Black Urad dal Kanji in both English & Tamil
Method

Add 1 cup rice, ¾ cup black urad dal, ¼ cup moong dal to a pressure cooker.

Add enough water and wash thoroughly 2-3 times and drain the water completely.

Add 12-14 garlic cloves, 1 tsp of fenugreek seeds to the pressure cooker.

Add 8 cups of water to the pressure cooker, required salt and mix well.

Cover with pressure cooker lid and cook for 3-4 whistles.

Wait for the steam to release completely all by itself. Open the lid and mash thoroughly.

Add 2-3 cups of water and mix really well. Adjust the salt level at this stage.


Add grated coconut and mix really well.

Healthy, delicious and tempting Black Urad Dal Kanji/Karuppu Ullundhu Kanji is ready to be enjoyed.
