Here’s how to make Cabbage Rice with step by step photos & Video…

2.5 cups
Cooked Rice
2.5 cups
1 big finely chopped
Green Chillies
2-3 finely chopped
Red Chilli Powder or Sambar Powder
1 tsp
Turmeric Powder
½ tsp
1 tsp
½ tsp
Grated Coconut
¼ cup
2-3 tbsp
½ tsp
*Please use the same bowl for measuring Cabbage and Cooked Rice

For Tempering
Mustard Seeds
½ tsp
Cumin Seeds
1 tsp
Urad Dal/Ullutham Paruppu
1 tsp
Bengal Gram Dal/Kadalai Paruppu
1 tsp
Cashew Nuts
6-8 chopped
Curry Leaves

Cook the rice and keep it separately. Shred the cabbage, chop onions, green chillies, grate the coconut and keep everything ready.

Heat 3 tbsp of oil in a kadai, splutter mustard seeds, cumin seeds, then add urad dal, kadalai paruppu and wait for the dal to turn to golden color.

Add curry leaves and fry until it turns crispy.

Now add the chopped cashew nuts and fry until golden color.

Add chopped onions, green chillies, little salt and saute well until it turns to light golden color.

Add shredded cabbage, required salt, asafoetida water and mix really well.

Cook the cabbage for about 3 minutes or until well done.

Add 1 tsp of red chilli powder or sambar powder, ½ tsp of turmeric powder, ½ tsp of garam masala powder.

Mix really well on low flame for about a minute.

Add 1 tsp of cumin powder and mix well. Now add the cooked rice and mix well until well combined. 

Cover and cook for about 3 minutes.

Open the lid and add grated coconut and mix well.

Finally add chopped cilantro, mix well and switch off the stove.

Delicious, healthy and flavourful Cabbage Rice is ready to be enjoyed.
