Green Bell Pepper Chutney/Capsicum Chutney

Chutneys play a very important part in our day to day food, especially in South Indian cooking. We make variety of chutneys starting from green leaves to all kinds of vegetables. Today I am going to share “Green Bell Pepper/Green Capsicum Chuteny” with you all. I have posted other variety of chutneys before, do check it out here.

Here’s how to make Green Bell Pepper Chutney with step by step photos…

Ingredients

Green bell pepper/Capsicum
2
Onion
1 chopped to cubes
Tomato
1 chopped to cubes
Garlic
4 cloves
Dry Red Chillies/Green chillies
2 or 3
Urad dal
1 tbsp
Cumin seeds
1 tsp
Tamarind
One small gooseberry size
Salt
As needed
Coriander leaves
1 tbsp finely chopped
Oil
2 tsp

For Tempering

Oil
1 tsp
Mustard seeds
½ tsp
Cumin seeds
½ tsp
Urad dal
1 tsp
Curry leaves
5- 8 leaves

Method

Wash and cut the green bell pepper in to cubes with the seeds. Chop the onions, tomatoes and peel the garlic and keep it aside.

Heat oil in a kadai add the cumin seeds, urad dal and saute until the dal turns golden brown color. Add the dry red chillies and saute until the color changes.

Add the onions, garlic, pinch of salt and saute until the onions are translucent.
Now add the tomatoes and saute until they turn mushy.

Add the green bell peppers/capsicums, corianderleaves and saute in medium flame for about 3 min or until the capsicums turn soft. Switch off the stove and let it cool.

Blend everything together with tamarind, salt into a fine paste and transfer it to a bowl.

Heat oil in kadai, temper the ingredients mentioned for tempering and add it to the chutney.
