Araikeerai Puli Kadaiyal/Araikeerai Puli Masiyal

Hello friends,

Today I am going to share with you all a very healthy and nutritious Araikeerai Puli Kadaiyal. This puli kadaiyal recipe is super tasty, tangy and spicy, everything in right amount. Araikeerai/Amaranthus Tristis, like any other green is loaded with iron, calcium, anitoxidants and other vitamins and minerals. Araikeerai is an excellent remedy for cold, cough, immunity and builds strength in our body. It is said to play a vital role in helping people suffering from neuritis/nerve related problems. I have read in one of the Ayurvedic books which states that, if araikeerai is included in our diet everyday it helps in curing long term diseases like cervical spondylosis, nerve pain, head ache, migrane etc. For this a very strict diet containing araikeerai kadaiyal and pepper rasam has to be followed every day. [Ref from Book: Nattu Moolikaigal by Dr. Venkatesan]. With this short note let us move on to the recipe. Do not forget to try this araikeerai puli kadaiyal and post your feedback here.

Here’s how to make Araikeerai Puli Kadaiyal with step by step photos…

Ingredients

Arai Keerai/Amaranthus Tristis
One bunch
Green Chillies
5-6
Tamarind/Puli
One small lemon sized ball
Sambar Onion
5-6
Salt
To taste

For Tempering

Oil
1 tsp
Cumin Seeds/Jeeragam
1 tsp
Red Chillies
2-3
Asafoetida/Perungaayam
One pinch
Preparation Time: 10 minutes[For cleaning the greens]
Cooking Time: 10 -15 minutes
Serves: 4-5

Method

Wash and clean the araikeerai thoroughly and keep it aside.

Add green chillies, onion, tamarind, salt, 1 to 1 ½ cup of water to the keerai and let it cook.

When keerai is cooked well, switch off the stove and let it cool down completely.

I blended the contents in the mixer, if you have kal chatti you transfer the contents to kalchatti and use the matthu and smash everything really well.

Heat oil in small kadai, add the ingredients mentioned for tempering and add it to the mashed araikeerai.

Adjust the salt as per your requirement, if you have thalippu vadagam you can add it when tempering which will give added taste to the dish.

Yes, delicious and healthy araikeerai puli kadaiyal is ready to be enjoyed, serve it hot with a cup of white rice.
