Falafel - Middle Eastern Dish

Falafel is a traditional Middle Eastern dish.  Since today is Valentine's day, I have planned a special exotic dinner for us. And today it's going to be Mediterranean menu, Falafel with pita bread, salad and hummus.

Falafel is a very filling vegetarian dish, is perfect as a starter, or a main course or just a snack. In this post I ‘am going to show you how to make Falafel with step by step instructions and photos.

Ingredients

Chickpeas(Kondakadalai)
250 gms
Garlic Cloves
5
Parsley
4 tsp finely chopped
Cilantro
4 tsp finely chopped
Onion
1 finely chopped
Green Chillies
4 finely chopped
Cumin Powder
1 tsp
Rice flour or All purpose flour
1 tbsp
Baking Soda
¾ tsp
Black Pepper Powder
1 tsp
Chilli Powder
1 tsp
Coriander Powder
1 tsp
Salt

Oil
As needed

 Method

In a large bowl add the chickpeas, pour enough water to cover the chickpeas and soak it overnight.

Drain the water and grind it in the mixer or blender coarsely. Next add the parsley, coriander leaves, green chillies, garlic and run the mixer one more time. Do not over grind it.

Now transfer it to the bowl, add onions, chilli powder, coriander powder, rice flour, pepper powder, cumin powder, baking soda, salt and mix them real good.

Now make small balls and fry them in the oil.
Serve the falafel with pita bread(store bought) or chapatti, salad and hummus.
