Pepper Rice

Pepper rice is very easy and a healthy dish to make. There is a very old saying in Tamil which says “Unnavey Marundhu, Marundhey Unnavu (Food is medicine, medicine is Food)” meaning “food is the medicine if taken the right way in right quantity”.  One such food is the pepper rice which acts as a medicine and also pleases your palate.



Ingredients



Cooked Rice
2 cups
Pepper Corns
3 tsp
Cumin
1 tsp
Urad Dhal
1/2 tsp
Garlic Cloves
5 ( crushed or finely chopped)
Red Chilli
2 (optional)
Mustard Seeds
1 tsp
Curry leaves
4
Oil
1 tsp

Method

In a kadai dry roasts the pepper corns and grind it in the mixer. (Not too fine or coarse)

In the same kadai heat the oil, add mustard seeds let it splutter.  Now add cumin seeds, red chilli, urad dhal, curry leaves one by one and sauté them. Then add the garlic and fry until golden brown.

Now add the cooked rice (rice should not be mushy), switch off the stove and add the ground pepper and mix them well together.

Serve it hot with appalam or rice vathal.

Note: Use only freshly ground peppercorn which enhances the taste of the rice.

Pepper corns is the best home remedy for relief from sore throat, congestion, cough etc. Black pepper plays a vital role in curing indigestion, constipation etc…
