Rava Upma /Semolina Upma/Sooji Upma

Rava Upma/Semolina Upma is very simple and easy breakfast to make. Here I made a very simple basic upma with onions and green chillies.

Here’s how to make it with step by step photos…

Ingredients

Rava
1 cup
Onion
1 big finely chopped
Green chillies
3 slit length wise
Ginger
One small piece finely chopped
Mustard seeds
¼ tsp
Cumin seeds
¼ tsp
Urad dhal
½ tsp
Bengal gram dhal
½ tsp
Curry leaves
5
Oil + ghee or just oil
1 tbsp
Cilantro
2 tsp finely chopped
Salt
As needed
Water
2  cups

Method

Heat a kadai, add one tsp of ghee and roast the rava in medium flame until it changes color and you get nice aroma. Transfer it to a plate.

In the same kadai heat rest of the oil, splutter the mustard seeds. Now add cumin seeds, urad dhal, bengal gram dhal, curry leaves and roast well.

Now add the onions, green chillies and ginger and sauté until transparent without changing its color.

Add water and salt, bring it to boil. Add the roasted rava, stirring it simultaneously. Cook in medium flame. Slowly the water gets absorbed and cook the upma for about 5-6 min. Finally add cilantro and mix well.

Yummy rava upma is ready to be enjoyed. Can be served with chutney or pickle or even just sugar.
